Position Summary The Retail Inventory Accountant Supervisor will oversee and manage the inventory accounting process, ensuring accurate financial reporting and leading month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), proficiency in QuickBooks, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting or a related field. This role will involve working independently and directly handling all related accounting tasks.
Key Responsibilities - Inventory Management:
- Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts.
- Analyze inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Month-End Close Management:
- Lead and manage the month-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate closing of inventory accounts.
- Perform and oversee journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
- Prepare and review inventory-related financial statements and reports.
- Ensure all month-end financial reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate and coordinate with other departments to gather necessary information for month-end close.
- Financial Reporting:
- Maintain and update inventory accounting policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits.
- System Management:
- Utilize QuickBooks for inventory accounting and financial reporting.
- Implement and optimize inventory management systems.
- Provide training and support to team members on inventory accounting processes.
Qualifications - Education:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in inventory accounting, preferably in a retail environment.
- Proven experience managing month-end close processes.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks.
- Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
